SUMMARY:Tongues of Fire Writers Workshop: To See and Be Seen
DESCRIPTION:The sisters of the yam Writing Society is partnering with Sister Mama Sonya\, a spoken word artist\, poet\, playwright\, actor\, storyweaver\, author\, and minister of the gospel\, to bring you the next Tongues of Fire Writers Workshop\, Part II of the To See and Be Seen series. \nIn this workshop gathering\, sistahs will examine spoken word poetic pieces by Black women writers and develop their own spoken word/poetic pieces to address harmful stereotypes of Black women\, Black femicide\, and the many realities that continue to place Black women directly in harm’s way. Sistahs may encounter moments of levity/solemnity\, laughter/tears\, as they search deep inside themselves to connect with their inner Black femme experience. \nThree pieces from the workshop will be selected for reading at Part III of the series\, the culminating Literary Salon. Through live readings\, conversation\, visual art\, and collective reflection\, we will bring greater awareness to the issues that continue to impact Black women/femmes and our community.
