The Nominating Committee is responsible for recommending new members to the Midtown Management District (MMD) Board of Directors
The MMD Board of Directors is always looking for qualified Midtown stakeholders to participate in the continued revitalization of the community. By volunteering with this dynamic group of leaders, you will have the opportunity to impact the quality of life and the types of services that are provided to the community in which you live or work.
The following time commitments are part of your service to the community:
- Preparing for monthly Board meetings – approximately one hour.
- Attending monthly Board meetings – approximately two hours.
- The Board meets on the first Wednesday of each month at 11am. For the convenience of volunteers, lunch is served.
- The Board meets once a quarter for an evening meeting at 6pm. Dinner is NOT served.
- In addition to the monthly Board meeting commitment, each Board member is asked to serve on a committee of their choice (Public Safety, Urban Planning, Service and Maintenance, Marketing and Economic Development, Cultural Arts and Entertainment, Finance and Budget Nominating)
- Attend community events such as National Night Out, Art in the Park, or citywide sponsored events as a professional representative of Midtown.

The guidelines to qualify to be considered a candidate for the Midtown Management District Board of Directors are covered under Chapter 375 of the Local Government Code, Sec. 375.063. QUALIFICATIONS OF DIRECTOR sets forth the qualifications to serve on the MMD Board, specifically:
- To be qualified to serve as a director, a person must be at least 18 years old and:
- an owner of property in the District;
- an owner of stock, whether beneficial or otherwise, of a corporate owner of property in the District;
- an owner of a beneficial interest in a trust that owns property in the District; or
- an agent, employee, or tenant of a person covered by Subdivision (1), (2), or (3).
NOTE: By City of Houston ordinance to be considered for the MMD Board your resumé must contain the following information:
- Identify and list separately your home and work addresses.
- Complete contact information including a phone number and email address.
- If you applying to serve on the MMD Board and if you will be serving as an agent for a qualified owner you must request an agent form from Cynthia Alvarado, Director of Operations and Strategic Planning, and submit that completed, signed, notarized agent form at the time you submit your resume.
Qualified candidates may be asked to sit for an in-person interview with the Nominating Committee and other Board Members.
Qualified candidates will undergo a background check.
Once the MMD Board of Directors accepts the recommended candidate, they may be presented to the city of Houston City Council for approval.
All seated candidates will be required to participate in the following training sessions:
- Section 551.005 and 552.012 of the Texas Government Code require elected and appointed officials who are members of a “governmental body,” as that term is defined in the Texas Public Information Act (TPIA), which includes the board or commission to which you have been appointed, to complete a course of training addressing the official’s responsibilities under the Open Meetings and Public Information Acts. This training must be completed within 90 days of your appointment.
- An approximately three-hour New Board Member Orientation with Midtown Management District staff.
