Five Reasons to Lounge on the Lawn

We’re celebrating Midtown Houston’s newest green space in a big way with our upcoming Lounge on the Lawn event at Midtown Park. It will be an all-day extravaganza for residents, Houstonians and visitors to the Bayou City.

There will be something for everyone at Lounge on the Lawn, including cuisine, live entertainment, park programming demonstrations and family-friendly activities. The day’s schedule on Saturday, April 28 from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. is packed with fun. Here are five reasons you’ll want to join in on the festivities:

  1. It’s Free & Easily Accessible

Who doesn’t love a good time, especially when it comes with no strings attached? The event is free and, equally as great, it’s easy to get to whether you’re driving, biking or walking. Midtown Park is centrally located at 2811 Travis St. right next to the McGowen METRORail Station. There is also a newly installed METRO bus shelter on Travis adjacent to the park.

For those driving, the Midtown Park Parking Garage located directly below the park is now open. It has 400 spaces and boasts round-the-clock security. If you’re commuting by bike, we have you covered too with racks to accommodate several bikes, located around the perimeter of the park.

  1. Pets Are Welcome and Encouraged

Bring your furry friend to try out the Reliant Dog Park and get tips from certified behavioral trainers. There will be doga (yoga with dogs), pet caricatures by Tom Rye and a programming demo of Yappy Hour with Urban Tails giveaways.

  1. Live Entertainment

Lounge on the Lawn is a great opportunity to appreciate the local arts community. You can watch live performances by The Ensemble Theatre, MetDance, the Houston Poet Laureate (D.E.E.P.) and Main Street Theater.

Then, as the sun sets, you can take part in a silent party featuring DJ Sun on the Camden Pavilion.

  1. Local Food Trucks

It goes without saying that food trucks are amazing. That’s why we’ve invited multiple delicious food trucks from the area to Lounge on the Lawn.

  1. Family-Friendly Fun

Midtown Park is a place where family, friends and neighbors can gather for a community atmosphere with activities for all ages. Kids will have a blast getting their faces painted, playing lawn games like Giant Jenga and enjoying the playground.

For adults, we’ve organized tours led by Design Workshop, the landscape architects behind Midtown Park’s sustainable design, as well as a Jupiter Star Party with the Houston Astronomical Society and more.

What’s got you the most excited for Lounge on the Lawn? We can’t wait to see you there!
