Public safety is at the heart of a thriving community. In Midtown Houston, we’re listening and acting to create programs and projects that enhance security and address the concerns of business owners, residents, and visitors. The input has been invaluable in shaping our response.
Our new plan prioritizes visibility, effectiveness, and trust—reflecting our shared commitment to enhancing public safety for a safer, stronger Midtown. While we do not take the place of the Houston Police Department (HPD) — our first line of defense—we’re proud to partner with them and other security resources to amplify the safety efforts in our neighborhood.
Providing Deterrence Through Enhanced Visibility
When people feel safe, they enjoy their time in a community and are more likely to return to local businesses, events, and venues. Visibility is one of the most effective ways to deter crime, which is why we’re enhancing the security presence in our neighborhood. SEAL Security Solutions, the contract security service Midtown relies on to support Houston Police, is rolling out updated vehicle signage featuring the Midtown logo. This simple but impactful change ensures that residents and businesses feel and see our enhanced security presence.
Improving Patrol Coverage with HPD Bike Patrol
Strategic patrols make a significant difference, and we’re working closely with HPD’s South Central and Central divisions to formalize patrol routes and ensure better coverage. We’re also excited to introduce the Midtown HPD Bike Patrol, launching in January 2025. Paid for with a $110,000 investment that is not from your annual assessment this cost is covered by the Midtown Parking Benefit District, these bike officers will provide a flexible, approachable security presence where it’s needed most.
More to Come
While these initiatives mark a significant step forward, they’re just the beginning. By listening to your concerns, we’re ensuring Midtown remains a vibrant neighborhood with enhanced safety options, where businesses, residents, and visitors can thrive, explore, and connect. Stay tuned as we continue to make Midtown a stronger place for all. You make the difference in the work we do, so be sure to attend our virtual committee meetings and join us at a future board meeting.
