Bagby Park in Midtown—The Neighborhood Park for Lifestyle Events
Since it first opened in 2003, Bagby Park on Gray St. has represented the Midtown Redevelopment Authority (MRA)’s commitment to promoting the community. Bagby Park is a lifestyle park for Midtown’s residents and visitors, as well as an oasis of green nestled amidst contemporary architecture and clear pathways. Mexican sycamore trees and Shumard red oaks shade the grassy lawn where countless people have dined, played, or rested for nearly two decades. Its beauty and iconic scenery make it a staple destination for social media interaction and photoshoots. The park is open daily from 8 am to 10 pm. When planning a visit, make sure to check out details on upcoming events like Teach You Tuesday and Brunch & Books here.
Bagby Park encompasses over 30,000 square feet of space for people to gather and is highly walkable for residents. It is bordered by Brazos St., Gray St., and Bagby St. on three sides. At the corner of Gray St. and Bagby St. sits La Calle Tacos, which is the perfect spot for enjoying outdoor savory Mexican-style bites. The Bagby Park name is synonymous with the iconic Midtown letters by the lawn—varying from eight feet to 11 feet in height—that are a signature feature of the area and attract visitors worldwide.
Located at 415 Gray St., the park was recently renovated to better accommodate future park programming and La Calle Tacos. It features a beloved 5,000-square-foot dog park, bocce ball court, shaded seating, and relaxing water elements. Whether you want to lounge on the lawn, grab lunch in the sunshine, capture a gorgeous Instagram shot against the backdrop of the Downtown Houston skyline, or hang out with friends and family, Bagby Park in Midtown offers something for everyone. The park regularly hosts in-person and virtual events where you can meet new faces. It is easily accessible by bike, car, or METRORail, with metered parking along all three streets and two convenient parking garages nearby.
Bagby Park offers a centering and joyful experience that highlights the best of our close-knit Midtown community. As our bustling city grows and thrives, it will continue to be a much-needed extension of the neighborhood for years to come.
Recent enhancements to Bagby Park were completed in the Spring of 2021. The improvements to the park, such as upgraded restrooms and storage facilities, will better accommodate future park programming and the new kiosk tenant, La Calle Tacos. The project was a collaboration between the MRA and its design team led by Walter P. Moore and Design Workshop.
Park renovations included the addition of a canopy and extra lighting to the stage for outdoor performances. Lawn modifications improved drainage and enhanced the open green space, and additional perimeter lighting has improved visibility into the park. La Calle Tacos was outfitted with a sustainable container bar and an expanded patio area that has increased outdoor seating.
The renovated park showcases the new and improved stage will feature a variety of musical acts and events throughout the year. For updates on the weekday and evening events, sign up for our newsletter.
