The Community Artists’ Collective (The Collective), a pillar of Houston’s art community, will celebrate its 40th anniversary with FolkFest 2027 on February 27, 2027.
The festival honors the organization’s past, present and future footprints in the city’s art, community and cultural life.
On the steady road to its milestone anniversary, The Collective, located in the nexus of the Third Ward, Midtown and the Ion District at 4111 Fannin, Suite 100A, has encouraged the development of Houston artists with exhibitions and entrepreneurial advice, advocated for arts education for all ages, and has supported and developed artistic and cultural experiences in the community.
The festival, which will take place on the Ion red lot city block (bounded by San Jacinto and Fannin and Cleburne and Wheeler) will feature entertainment, food and art vendors and a visual history of The Collective’s years of activities.
An exhibition, a soft launch for the year-long anniversary celebration, will open August 28, at The Collective. “The Road to 40–A Retrospective of the Community Artists’ Collective,” which will be on display through October 30, will offer a powerful look back at the four decades of centering on Black women artists, intergenerational learning and creative entrepreneurship, while also laying the foundation for future asset mapping and cultural sustainability.
