Midtown Houston is taking another step toward improving neighborhood safety with the donation of six new traffic control speed lasers to the Houston Police Department’s South Central Division.
The equipment—funded by Midtown’s Parking Benefit District Committee—will help officers enhance traffic enforcement efforts within the Midtown and South-Central patrol area. The $14,142.78 contribution was made through the Houston Police Foundation, which facilitated the purchase on Midtown’s behalf.
“These tools represent our continued commitment to supporting the officers who keep Midtown safe,” said Jaime Giraldo, Midtown Houston’s Director of Public Safety. “We’ve heard your concerns about speeding and reckless driving, and we’re working closely with our law enforcement partners to address them.”
The addition of new speed lasers means HPD officers can more efficiently identify and cite speeding drivers—helping reduce traffic accidents, calm roadways, and improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists throughout Midtown.
This initiative also strengthens Midtown’s community-policing partnership, ensuring that residents, business owners, and visitors experience safer streets and intersections. By enhancing enforcement capabilities, the program supports the broader goals of reducing crashes, increasing driver accountability, and promoting a culture of shared responsibility.
Residents are encouraged to continue reporting areas where speeding or reckless driving occurs so resources can be redirected to those corridors.
Approved by the Parking Benefit District Committee in May of 2025, the equipment was officially delivered to HPD South Central Station in early October 2025.
This initiative aligns with Midtown’s ongoing public safety strategy, which focuses on proactive partnerships, education, and enforcement.
“When we all take responsibility for safety—by slowing down, reporting issues, and staying aware—we strengthen our community,” added Giraldo.
Together, Midtown Houston and HPD continue to prioritize a safer, more connected neighborhood for everyone.
