Advancing Affordable Housing & Creating Stronger Communities
As a continuation of our affordable housing initiatives, CCPPI, Midtown Houston’s affordable housing partner, has secured developer agreements to produce more than 130 new affordable homes, including 43 single family homes in Palmetto (OST/South Union), 70 homes in the Martin Luther King area, and an additional 24 homes in Third Ward.
The strategies we implement will serve to decrease displacement for families, increase affordable housing options, and provide supportive wrap around services to residents.
Our affordable housing strategy incorporates supportive services, which will open later this year in the Affordable Housing Operations Center (AHOC) in an Opportunity Zone. The AHOC is a transformational mixed-use facility that will support affordable housing, economic development, and improvement in the quality of life for low-to moderate income residents. It is the first major facility constructed since the adoption of the Third Ward Complete Communities program and complies with 23 of the community objectives.
Building on the vision and goals of the AHOC, CCPPI has partnered with Project Row Houses to pay homage to the founders’ vision and commitment that began with 22 abandoned, affordable houses and is now a nationally recognized community revitalization initiative. This newly commissioned work, A Salute to the Founding Artists of Project Row Houses, will follow in the footsteps and goals of Project Row Houses by combining art and affordable housing with an emphasis on cultural identity and meaningful urban landscapes. The 120-foot, seven panel art installation will be located on the exterior of the AHOC garage to preserve heritage and complement the City of Houston’s Civic Art program.
Beyond building beautiful, affordable neighborhoods, we’re committed to ensuring our properties are clean and well maintained as they await development. And we need your help.
Community Clean-Up This Saturday
We invite you to take part in Midtown Houston’s Community Clean-Up on Saturday, October 17, hosted in partnership with Change Happens, Boynton Chapel United Methodist Church, Houston Community Toolbank, and Keep Houston Beautiful. We will meet at Boynton Chapel United Methodist Church at 9:00 AM.
To keep our community safe during the clean-up, we are enforcing social distancing and other guidelines in accordance with the City of Houston’s recommendations for addressing COVID-19. We ask that all community members maintain a distance of at least six feet from one another and wear a face mask and disposable gloves while taking part in the clean-up.

We will continue to work together toward reducing garbage and blight while preserving the history of the community and the environment. In the meantime, we hope you will continue to be a partner in our collective civic responsibility to keep our neighborhoods clean.
Expanding Maintenance Protocols
If you see something, say something by using our SeeClickFix tool in the Midtown Houston app. We have expanded this tool to include our affordable housing lots in Southeast Houston. The sooner we become aware of any issues, the sooner we will be able to address them.
But that’s not all that we’re committed to. We have enhanced our maintenance protocols to include a system of checks and balances to ensure a timely solution, including:
- Consolidating our resources with other crews.
- Increasing efficiency in our work orders.
- Time stamping and photographing all of our properties to make sure they are maintained.
As we continue the construction of homes as outlined in our Midtown Affordable Housing Plan, we invite area residents to do their part in keeping our community clean, safe, and inviting for all. You help keep us accountable.
