Midtown Houston invites Houstonians and visitors to the annual Art in the Park Fine Art Festival on Saturday, April 20, from 10 am to 4 pm. Held at the newly opened Midtown Park Plaza located at 902 McGowen Street, this free community festival celebrates National Jazz Appreciation Month and pays tribute to the legendary Maestro Duke Ellington. Guests can expect a day filled with fine art created by local artists, art classes, live music, fresh food, and many engaging activities.

“Art in the Park ” presents over 30 art vendors, showcasing diverse artistic styles, mediums, and expressions. From paintings to sculptures, there’s something for every art enthusiast and budding collector to explore and appreciate,” said Cynthia Alvarado, Director of Operations and Strategic Planning at the Midtown Management District.

In addition to local artists to shop from, there will be various activities for all ages. Guests can reserve a space for ArtJams, a series of interactive art classes that allow guests to unleash their creativity.

  • The Jazzy String Art Class will take place from 10 am to 11 am, offering guests the chance to make and take home a whimsical musical artwork of their choice – options include a music clef, saxophone, guitar, or flower.

  • The Matisse Inspired Collage class will take place from 12 pm to 1 pm and offers a chance to create a vibrant collage using materials, such as music paper, maps, string, and colored paper.

  • The Dot Painting class will take place from 2 pm to 3 pm, where jazz music will inspire guests to create unique artwork using dots.

Art in the Park also features food trucks and dessert vendors, free face painting, selfie stations to capture memorable moments, dazzling art cars and installations, line dancing, and live music.

DJ Mav will be spinning top modern tunes and paying tribute to Maestro Duke Ellington. For a taste of New Orleans, the Hustlers Brass Band will deliver upbeat, soulful sounds that will transport guests to the heart of the French Quarter. The game zone will feature popular games like UNO, dominoes, and Jenga and guests can unleash their creative skills at the coloring book station, featuring Midtown and jazz-themed illustrations. Additionally, guests can witness the streets come alive with vibrant chalk art displays.
