If you’re a frequent visitor to Midtown Houston’s Bagby Park at 415 Gray St., you might notice some changes underway. The Midtown Redevelopment Authority (MRA) is upgrading the park to add new features from now until the fall of this year.
“The upcoming renovations at Bagby Park will enhance the overall experience for park visitors,” said Marlon Marshall, MRA’s Director of Engineering and Construction. “We are excited to be working alongside Walter P. Moore and Design Workshop to help execute our vision for this park, which will maximize the long-term value of real-estate in our community.”
Park renovations will include the addition of a canopy and lighting to the stage, enhancing outdoor performances. Lawn modifications will improve drainage and enhance the open green space, which creates a relaxing space of natural beauty. The food kiosk will receive a refreshed look as well along with a tenant.
During the renovations, the 5,000-square-foot dog park will remain open for the convenience of patrons and their pets. Many other park favorites will also remain unchanged like the popular and instagrammable 10-foot Midtown letters, where visitors are able to capture snapshots of the spectacular Downtown skyline. The relaxing water features at the park will also remain and serve as a tranquil place for visitors to enjoy.
The newly renovated park will also include daily park activations, such as a public reading library and a public game cart. Be on the lookout for new weekday and evening classes to help you get fit and inspired. Plus, the new and improved stage will feature a variety of musical acts and events throughout the remainder of the year.
“We are thrilled to bring these new enhancements to Bagby Park,” said Amaris Salinas, Midtown Parks Conservancy Programming Manager. “2019 will bring a variety of new and free events at Bagby Park that will be fun for everyone in the community.” Current programming at Bagby Park will temporarily be moved to Midtown Park and Elizabeth Baldwin Park.
