National Night Out in Midtown

Houston, TX — September 3, 2024—Midtown Houston invites Houstonians and visitors to meet at Midtown Park (2811 Travis St.) for National Night Out on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:30 PM. This annual event is dedicated to fostering connections between neighbors and local law enforcement, creating a safer and more united community through a fun, family-oriented evening.

“One of the most important tools for public safety is simply human connection,” said Jaime Giraldo, Director of Public Safety of the Midtown Management District. “When neighbors know each other, they can build rapport, share the challenges they face in their areas, and work together to improve the community. This, along with the opportunity to engage with local law enforcement officers, is what makes National Night Out so special.”

National Night Out was introduced across the United States in August of 1984 through an established network of law enforcement agencies, neighborhood watch groups, civic organizations, and volunteers across the nation. The inaugural event saw participation from 2.5 million neighbors across 400 communities in 23 states.

This year, Midtown Houston’s National Night Out will feature activities for all ages, including:

  • Houston Fire Department Visit: Children can explore a fire truck up close.
  • Complimentary Food: Enjoy meals from James Coney Island, mini bundt cakes from The Baker’s Man, and gelato mini cups from Constantine, available while supplies last.
  • Interactive Games: Giant Jenga and Connect 4 will be available for all to enjoy.
  • Free Face Painting: Fun designs for children and adults.
  • 360° Photo Booth: Capture special moments with friends and family.
  • Local Sports Teams: Engage with local teams through activities and giveaways.

Community partners, including the Salvation Army, Houston Police Department, Houston Fire Department, METRO, and various homeowners associations, will offer valuable resources and safety information. This free event is designed to unite residents, families, and local organizations in a celebration of their neighbors and community safety.
