Midtown Management District Board Announces New Officers

The Midtown Management District (MMD) Board of Directors has elected new officers– residents, changemakers and business owners who reside in the very community they will serve. This diverse group of leaders engenders the same spirit of inclusion MMD prides itself on. As a body of individuals charged with promoting, developing, and maintaining the arts, entertainment, housing, safety, and so much more in Midtown Houston, these positions are elected with care and consideration.

Cynthia Alvarado, Operations Manager for MMD, said, “I am thrilled to have these talented individuals. Their unique backgrounds and diverse experience will make them a great asset to Midtown Houston’s board and the organization.” MMD plays several valuable roles in the neighborhood, the primary one being to provide coordination, community access and education about public safety.  MMD is also charged with the task of developing community-based events and projects that attract more residents, businesses, and investments

Each of the new members will serve two -year terms, during which they will work to positively impact the next chapter in our lively and ever-changing part of the city.  The position of Chairperson will be held by Eileen J. Morris, Artistic Director of the Ensemble Theatre located in Midtown. Morris has served in several different board positions through the years and played a pivotal role in helping the community secure a state appointed Cultural Arts and Entertainment District. The designation has helped provide more than $200,000 of funding to area art organizations, artists and projects.

Other newly-elected positions include:

Vice-Chair – Darcy Lefsrud

Treasurer – Dana Woodruff

Secretary – Marylene Chan

Assistant Secretary – James Llamas

All members have served the board in a variety of ways through the years. From helping beautify our district by enhancing park spaces to launching new initiatives that prioritize the safety of cyclists; each individual has been a contributor to elevating the community.

Board members also advocate for their constituents– amplifying local voices to see to it that their concerns are made known and addressed. These local leaders work diligently to encourage interaction between residents and businesses to continuously enhance Midtown Houston.
