Midtown welcomes the new year

With the ringing in of a new year, we’ve said goodbye to 2017.

In Midtown Houston, we had the opportunity to celebrate success in several arenas. Over the last year, we witnessed major improvements to our parks and green spaces. Midtown Park emerged as a beautiful new space for outdoor art, music, community activities, and family fun. It was the site of the fabulous Dîner en Blanc event where 2,100 guests came for fine food and fashion in November.

In the last 12 months, we’ve also had the pleasure to host special events in other Midtown Houston destinations. Second Sunday events in Elizabeth Baldwin Park were a popular attraction last year, with live music, lawn games, food trucks, and giveaways. Mistletoe Market in Bagby Park made holiday shopping a little easier and a lot more fun with arts and crafts vendors, a photo booth, and ornament making.

We plan to continue those gatherings with additional dates on the calendar in 2018. Bringing people together for entertainment and celebration is one of many ways to build a stronger community.

A significant part of Midtown Houston’s service plan for the years 2015 through 2024 focuses on improving the aesthetic appeal of the community with lighting, landscaping, and infrastructure improvements. Our goal is to enhance the accessibility of Midtown Houston for residents and visitors, making the streets more friendly for pedestrians and cyclists.

Public safety remains a top priority every day of every year, and Midtown Houston works proactively with local law enforcement to support efforts to prevent crime, and to educate the public.

Midtown Houston already enjoys a reputation as a place where the arts can thrive. Our area boasts more than 140 restaurants, bars, and coffee shops, which bring Houston foodies and entertainment seekers into our community on a daily basis.

There’s no doubt Midtown Houston is at the heart of all good things happening in Houston–both last year, and in the year we’ve just begun. We hope you enjoy your time here and make the most of every opportunity.  Check out the Midtown Houston Events page for exciting events in 2018.
