Top Juneteenth Events in Midtown Houston

Midtown is excited to bring our unique flair to Juneteenth tributes with events curated by local creatives and entrepreneurs. Visit the iconic Midtown sign at Bagby Park throughout June to see it wrapped in an art installation. The artist, Melissa Aytenfisu, will discuss her inspiration during a talk open to the public at The Gregory School on June 8. Get tickets here.

From June 11-15, you can attend the Juneteenth and Black Music Month exhibition “Jewel Brown: A Legacy” at Community Artists’ Collective, which recognizes the life of Jewel Brown, an American jazz and blues singer famed for touring with Louis Armstrong’s All-Star Band. The event will include artwork by artists Tamirah Collins, Khaili Sam-Sin, Nic High, and more. June 11 will also offer an opportunity to get to know artist Charles Washington who serves as the Chair of the Midtown Management District Cultural Arts and Entertainment Committee. You won’t want to miss another exciting exhibition “Made to Last: The Legacy of the Jubilee Quilt Circle,” which is open Tuesdays through Saturdays at the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft. This exhibit features a selection of quilts made by current participants and founding members of Community Artists’ Collective to honor the quilting tradition and narratives of the African American community.

On June 17, The Ion and Houston Area Urban League will host a special panel conversation “Creating Wealth in the Metaverse and through Commerical Real Estate.” It’s an excellent opportunity to network with local entrepreneurs, bankers, potential investors, and business consultants. The Buffalo Soldiers National Museum will host a Juneteenth Celebration on June 18th, starting at noon. Guests will have the chance to enjoy a live art session with artist Lauren Luna, tours, living history performances, a live DJ, a food truck, and a cash bar. More details can be found here.
