Recognizing Our Officers and the Midtown Houston Community’s Strength This Police Week
This week, we’re honoring the men and women who protect and serve our Midtown Houston community. May 13 to May 19 is Police Week, a national reminder of their sacrifice and the gravity of police work.
Our devoted officers may be unnoticed or unappreciated at times as they go about their duty keeping us safe, but now it’s time to recognize their efforts. May 15 was the official Peace Officer Memorial Day, which dates back to a proclamation made by President Kennedy in the 60s.
You can help keep this traditional alive by showing your support for our local Midtown Houston police on social media or through other avenues.
Honoring Protection and Service During Police Week
One of the most important reminders Police Week provides is that officers are approachable, real people. They serve our community to make it more livable for everyone. Our police are active in the goings-on of Midtown Houston, making an effort to understand our needs and expectations. They interact with us directly during events like National Night Out.
We encourage you to get to know the Houston Police Department and Harris County Precinct 7 through their website or Twitter. Police hold many public events throughout the year to encourage safe practices like seat belt use and more. They also give out information on job fairs, updates about notable arrests and tips on reporting crime. Even just seeing a picture and learning the names of officers in our area can promote feelings of support and understanding.
Sometimes, honoring the police can be as simple as a positive thought for their own safety and security. They often work long hours for patrol and have to deal with unpleasant situations. When you see them around in the community, you’ll know they’re keeping the peace.
To all law enforcement officers in Midtown Houston and across the nation, thank you for your service!
