Midtown Houston is kicking off rodeo season in style. As part of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo 2025, the Midtown sign at Bagby Park (415 Gray Street) will be transformed into a large-scale temporary public art installation. This vibrant display will celebrate Western heritage and Houston’s deep cultural roots, bringing the spirit of rodeo season to the heart of the city.
Honoring Houston’s Rodeo Legacy
Every year, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo brings together thousands of visitors for a celebration of Texas traditions, music, and community. The 2025 theme, “Let’s Rodeo, Houston!”, reflects the energy and excitement of this cherished event. Midtown Houston, through the Midtown Cultural Arts and Entertainment District, is proud to contribute to the festivities with an art installation that embodies the essence of rodeo culture and Houston pride.
Meet the Artist: Lauren Luna
Houston-based artist Lauren Luna has been commissioned to design this year’s
rodeo-inspired Midtown sign wrap. An accomplished painter and muralist, Luna has left her mark on Houston’s art scene with installations at the George R. Brown Convention Center and throughout the city. Recognized for her artistic achievements, she was even honored with a mayoral proclamation declaring July 11th as “Lauren Luna Day” in Houston.
Luna’s rodeo-themed artwork will be displayed on the 8-foot-tall, 81-foot-wide Midtown sign. The design will feature nods to Houston’s Western heritage, including a tribute to Al’s Handmade Boots, a local Midtown business that keeps the tradition of handcrafted Texas footwear alive. By incorporating elements that celebrate local craftsmanship and culture, Luna’s artwork not only captures the rodeo spirit but also highlights and supports Midtown’s small business community.
Public Art in Midtown: A Tradition of Creativity
Since 2022, the Midtown Cultural Arts and Entertainment District has invited artists and graphic designers to create large-scale public art projects on the Midtown sign. These installations have highlighted diverse themes, from Hispanic heritage to Houston’s vibrant cultural scene, offering a visual celebration of community identity.
The Midtown Rodeo Wrap will be professionally installed by Got Signs by Xtickers Designs, Inc., just in time for the start of the Texas Independence Trail Ride (February 22–March 1) and the Houston Rodeo (February 27–March 23). The wrap will remain on display through March 25, 2025.
