Get Outdoors: Midtown Houston Park Events Return for the Fall Season

Park events have returned with in-person and virtual options at Bagby Park (415 Gray St.), Midtown Park (2811 Travis St.), Elizabeth Baldwin Park (1701 Elgin St.), and Elizabeth Glover Park (3104 Austin St.) in Midtown Houston. Park programs which had transitioned into virtual programs only last year are now gearing up for hybrid events that will offer in-person at parks and virtual experiences on the Midtown social media sites.

In-person park programs kicked off in August with the monthly Teach You Tuesday class in Bagby Park and weekly Zumba class in Midtown Park every Tuesday at 6:30 pm. Teach You Tuesday is an instructional hands-on learning class featuring various projects from DIY projects, painting classes, to craft beer and cheese pairings. We will continue offering a virtual class or provide resource links for those unable to attend in person so that you can create at home.

Park programming also includes literary events such as Children’s Storytime and Brunch and Books as well as musical programs like Beats & Eats. A favorite park program – Chalk on the Block – includes colorful pavement art created by local artists at Elizabeth Baldwin Park every first Saturday from 10 am to 2 pm.

Bagby Park in Midtown has received a facelift with great, new added features like the colorful blue stage canopy providing much-needed shade for performers. Plus, the addition of a new dining option at La Calle Tacos. Bagby Park attendees can enjoy Mexican street-style tacos and cool beverages from 10 am to 11 pm daily.

“We are excited to be back with in-person events at the parks and we are looking forward to bringing some new and unique programs in the new year,” said Amaris Salinas, Park Programming Manager for Midtown Parks Conservancy.

Additional programs returning to the parks will include Movie Night at Midtown Park on September 16 with the 80’s classic Goonies and fitness series Get Fit in Midtown second held on Saturdays at 9:30 am at Bagby Park in Midtown and fourth Saturdays at 9:30 am at Elizabeth Baldwin Park. Yappy Hour, the pet-friendly event that will return to Bagby, Glover and Midtown Park in October with a fun Halloween pet costume contest.

Park programming guests are encouraged to be safe, wash hands often, practice social distancing, and use hand sanitizer. For a list of park events and virtual programs, please visit the Midtown Houston Event Calendar. To learn more information on La Calle, visit www.lacalletacos.com.
